How it all began
Hello Sourdough Enthusiasts!
Welcome to my sourdough blog! My passionate, my love, and my enthusiasm into the world of fermented dough.
A little intro: I've been making sourdough now for over a year, and since that time have made over 1000 loaves! Seems obsessive, yes-hence the blog;) Approximately a third of these loaves have been eaten by us, another third given away, and the rest sold to my ever so faithful and lovely customers. Thank you especially to those who have stuck with me through all the trial and errors!
In order to go forward, I need to take a moment to step back to where my love and passion all began.
In December 2018, I found myself wondering around Chapters with a cup of tea feeling quite sorry for myself and in desperate need of a little self care. What better way, than for an introvert, to take herself out and stroll through aisles of books with a cozy cuppa healing tea in hand, right? As I wandered, I found myself gravitated to the cookbook section (as I often do) and low and behold... THERE IT WAS. My first book on Sourdoughs! My little Dutch heart skipped a beat because it happened to be in the clearance section as well! A sweet score (excuse the pun). I grabbed the book, headed to the checkout with my half drank tea, drove myself back home and began devouring the book-day and night, front to back. This was part of my new self care.
Fast forward to March 2019. Shawn arrives home with a fresh loaf of sourdough in a ziplock bag. "Where did you get that?!?" I demanded. And "can I get the starter???!!!" He looked at me quizzically then said, "yeah, it's from my sister. I'm sure she'll share." And so it began. I recieved my first starter!!! I began to feed and care for her and called her RUBY. If you really want to know why I chose that name for her, you'll have to ask me sometime:)
On March 11, 2019, my Ruby birthed her first loaf. In awe and totally excitement, we ate it all in the first few hours! Oh, did I mention Ruby was 70 years old?
My passion grew into an obsession (the healthy kind) and the rest is history. I continue to make approximately 20 loaves per week; feeding us, my family, friends and those in need of a little extra love.
I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you as you follow my blog, and hope that in some small way, I'm making the world a better and healthier place; one sourdough loaf at a time.
